Baby Survives Stuffed Bear Attack, Falls Asleep

Picked up the munchkin at the YWCA childcare, found him sacked out in the arms of a large stuffed bear.

Sassy Baby Stares Down Paparazzi

This photo was taken by Deidre Moynihan (Race Photographer) at the Stazio Criterium on March 25th. It is available at the link below. She said it was the best picture of the day :) Comments on what he's thinking? It's a pretty sassy look. Regarding the race: Dad attacked the field early (this was the day after his big win at Cat Eye Road Race) and a few guys bridged up to him. In addition to Jon, the group of 6 included Jon's teammate, Christian McCarthy as well as our friend Kelly Ruddick of the Wild Oats team, Stephano Barberi of Toyota United, Kevin Nichol and someone else I am forgetting. They held off the charging pack for the entire race. Jon led out Christian for the sprint but Barberi ended up victorius... Christian got 3rd and Jon, gassed from his lead-out, got 6th. First win of the season!

Jon "The Breaker" Baker strikes again, this time breaking the will and the thigh muscles of all his fellow Men's Pro/1/2 racers in the Boulder Cat Eye Road Race. This race is what is known in cycling as a Spring Classic (read: cold, rainy, road race with a lot of dirt sections). Jon and his teammates on the Vitamin Cottage Cycling Team just went to the front of the peloton and hammered. In lap 2 (of 6), the small group of guys that were still with him fell back (see photo), and Jon finished the last two thirds of the race solo. I found him, motionless, in the hot tub when I got home and his ability to move about has been degenerating ever since. "I could've gone five minutes slower and still won; I went too hard," Jon was heard muttering later in the evening. He says the cardio engine outdid his leg muscles, which need a little more hard effort in them before they catch up.

Spring Snow

Spring has arrived. I'm looking out the window (it's snowing!) and reflecting on how spring means different things for all of us. For Leah? Spring Break (sunny California) For Jon? Spring Classics (Cat Eye Road Race) For me? Spring Cleaning (gotta sell this house) For Colorado? I think it just means the snowflakes are bigger ;)

Twitters!

Possibly you have noticed the green "twitter" badge on the left hand side of my blog. These are my tweets. Tweets are little sentences I occasionally post to Twitter.com to say what I am doing. If you scroll through the badge using the arrows, you will see a history of all my tweets.

First Finger Food

We took Leah and Axel to "You and Mee Noodle House" on University Hill. After feeding Axel his usual jar of organic baby mush we piled toys in front of him so we could eat our dinner. Two minutes later he wanted to be held. I put him on my lap and set a couple small pieces of rice noodle on the table in front of him. Axel enthusiastically ate the rice noodles with his hands. Besides eating them, he also smeared them on the table and dropped them in my lap. After the mess on the table became untenable , we snuck out, trailing noodles from our shoes.

My ears aren't really that big...

...are they?

al Fresco at Sherpas

We all went to Sherpa's for dinner tonight, eating saag, lamb tandoori, and dumplings (Axel dined on rice cereal and applesauce). Weather was balmy and everyone was feeling good. Jon got 6th in his windy, rolling road race today; Karl Menzies of Health Net won.

Bridging the Gap

Baker closes down the gap that had opened up in the main field. The break up the road has Ten-Menzies and Jason Donald... we're only half through but it's gonna be hard to catch that.

Leah chillin' at the CU Crit

We came to see Jon race in the men's pro event but caught the tail end of the collegiate men's event. Leah was appropriately attired :) In the sprint, Durango pipped the CU rider by a quarter wheel. Oh well.

Axel took his shots like a man

This picture, showing Axel just moments after he got his shots, demonstrates what a little trooper he was. He barely whimpered.

Click To Play He's not quite crawling yet but he's able to wriggle over to things he wants to look at. The toy he's playing with here was a favorite of Ben's as well. He likes the bluebirds best.

Leah just had to cut her hair! It was always so messy and tangled (right). She agreed to cut it if she could also color it. We agreed and here is the result (above). Happy early St. Patty's day! Now hopefully it is ok with her school :-O
Drank margaritas with Aunt Elisabeth and Jon. Ate Chinese food. Jon took this picture of our giant baby, Axel.
