Green Lawn Mowers

This herd (flock?) of about 200 goats is confined within this electric fence to eat the vegetation. CU gets free mowing on difficult to trim areas and the goat herder gets free food for the goats.

A Typical Lunch Out With Axel

We were mobbed by the owners, the waitress, and that's the woman from the neighboring table holding him. He's charismatic, this one!

Clif Shot Retires to Comfy Life as a Cruiser Bike

After 5 years of diligent service and 2 more of semi-retirement, Clif Shot (aka my old mountain bike) has officially retired from mountain biking into a quiet life as a cruiser bike. Clif's career highlights include 2 collegiate national championships, a podium in the Sea Otter Hardtail Downhill, and a trip off a 40 ft cliff (in which he came away unscathed and earned his nickname of Clif Shot). Since 2005, when I purchased my Specialized S-Works FSR, Clif has largely hung around the shed and was occasionally ridden by out-of-town guests such as Dad and my friend Nicole. The official retirement took place last night when I put on new handle-bars, pedals and slick tires, as well as a comfort saddle and a basket. Mr. Shot and I celebrated retirement today with a trip onto U-Hill.

Burnt Toast

Here is Axel at "Burnt Toast" a restaurant on the hill. The waitress just gave my tea to the people that came in after us- then took their food order. Time passes... Now they are sending back the tea because it wasn't what they ordered. Duh. Shall not be returning unless the food is insanely good. I don't think the other people will either - they just got their food but still have not received their drinks... We have the taste of burnt toast in our mouths. Added Later: see my comment for the rest of the story...

Leah at Viele Lake

This is the lake behind the hill at the condo. We rode around it to burn off banana split.

My Banana Splits

Leah, Axel, and I rode bikes to the ice cream parlour to celebrate her return. Can you believe school starts tomorrow?!?!? Axel's eyes grew to the size of ice cream scoops when he saw this. He got mostly banana but seemed quite satisfied.

Torrential Downpour

Axel and I are stuck under a bridge waiting out a crazy storm. With nothing better to do, I figured I might as well blog it. And, no, Axel doesn't have his new raingear with him but he is safely stowed in his waterproof trailer :)

Serendipitous Spillage

In toting the bbq to the park for Mom's birthday picnic, I spilt some greasy bbq leavings (a lot actually) into the trunk of the Subaru. Luckily the trunk is lined with a thick rubber tray. I covered the spill with a large cloth. A week later, while transporting cleaning supplies, I spilt a lot of dish soap in the trunk. Jon says we'll just wait until I spill a lot of water back there and the whole thing will just resolve itself.

Race Winner Gets Hit On by Axel

Here is Beth Fisk, winner of today's elite women's race at Bannock, holding Axel. He likes Beth, even gave her a little love smack in the face. Beth said it only hurt a little. How the win went down: Beth lifted to pace in the second to last corner as a lead-out for her teammate. No one could hold the pace and Beth ended up coming in solo to the finishing straight for the win.

Which came first, Axel or the Egg?

I walked into the childcare center and saw Axel from behind. He turned to look at me and this is what I saw. He had stuffed an entire plastic egg into his mouth.

Pooks Ridge

Pooks has left Boulder Canyon and has moved to Shanahan Ridge (aka Shananigan Ridge). On our first night here we wandered outside our condo and happened upon a neighbor's margarita get-together on their patio (thanks Matt and Lindsey). We stayed till midnight. A big switch from the canyon! If you wandered outside there at night you'd happen upon a raccoon's garbage get-together in the driveway and stay until midnight cleaning up garbage. Jon said it's like Melrose Place here.
