Rocky Mountain Acupuncture

Can you see the tiny needles in my fingers? Taking a leaf from Leah's book, I crashed my bike into a cactus. Also, got the Power Bars in the car but failed to bring the Power Bars on the ride. Also, accidentally took the loop the book said, and I quote, was for, "some brave souls looking for a rigorous workout." Jon, if you're reading this today, I may be home late.

Deer Me!

Posted by Mr. Pooks This picture sums up the 2008 Deer Trail Road race. Vitamin Cottage teammates Teton (on right) and The Beast discuss how to split up their riches after bookending the podium in 1st and 3rd. In the background the shattered remains of the peloton can be seen in various states of distress.

The Beast has signed on as a co-author of Pooks Canyon to give us race updates from the Gila and beyond. File photo

It's Comcastic!

When we stayed briefly in North Boulder our house had Comcast Intenet. Since we are occasional users of BitTorrent, we found the internet service shutting down on us. Lovely. Turns out, in an effort to reduce network traffic, Comcast was detecting BitTorrent traffic and shutting down service to anyone participating in file sharing/p2p/bitTorrent activity. Comcast is now in big doodoo with the FCC and are responding by implementing a Customer Bill of Rights . Are they serious? They are now granting us rights? It's Comcastic. BTW... I love my Qwest 7 mbps service at the new house. It's Fantastic.

Playing in Colorado Springs

Yesterday Jon, Axel, and I went to Colorado Springs for some bike racin' action at the Colorado Springs Classic. Leah had a softball scrimmage and stayed with teammate and coach's daughter Billie Blue. In the downtown crit last night Jon started the break of 5 that stayed away for the finish (Colby Pierce won). Today he is at the Air Force Academy road race (also 1986 World's course) while Axel and I hang out at this great play area. We'll head to the feed zone eventually but right now we're in play heaven.

Olive Oil Cake with Sweet Basil Sauce

Jon and I went to a restaurant near our house called SoBo. The food was very imaginative, especially this dessert. Some things had one too many components but the flavors were great.

I'm So Confused

Not So Spindly Packaging

Jon received a bicycle spindle (the tiny thing he is holding) in the mail today. It weighs 42 grams and was sent inside smaller black box which was inside the large white box. It could have been mailed in an envelope with a single first class stamp. I think the people in charge of writing the warning label are also responsible for shipping.

Fairweather Flyer Lifts Off

I love riding bikes, mainly when it is sunny, between 60 and 85 degrees, and preferably not windy. Today I had 2 out of 3, but the wind did blow me home from Eldorado Springs so I didn't mind so much.

Buy the Good Beer... on Sundays!

What a concept! It appears Colorado liquor stores will be allowed to stay open on Sundays, starting in July. For beer connoisseurs, this means something other than Coors (or other 3.2 beer) will be available 7 days a week. Grocery and convenience stores are upset because 90% of their beer sales take place on Sundays. Cry me a river.
